Writers of all levels sit side-by-side in these sessions. Because our exercises are built around shared literary readings followed by inspiring prompts, they are designed to meet you exactly where you are. For beginners, it removes the pressure of the blank page. For experienced and even published writers, the prompts bypass your inner editor, spark fresh imagination and inject new insight into ongoing projects.
Not at all! While our weekly sessions are full of friendly discussion where we share concepts and bounce ideas around, your actual writing stays entirely private. We deliberately don’t share our written work during the first five weeks so you can put pen to paper with total freedom and zero fear of judgment.
We save reading your work aloud for the final week of the term, where you are welcome to share something inspired by the previous weeks. By then, you’ll know the group well. This final session is run as a gentle peer review – a safe, invaluable opportunity to give and receive constructive feedback.
Just a pen and a notebook!
If you are joining us in Longcot or at the Des Moffatt Community Centre, tea, coffee and snacks are provided as part of the course. If you are attending at Bert’s Books, please bring along a bit of money if you’d like to purchase drinks and snacks from Bert during the session.
‘Amazing! I really enjoyed the 6 week course with Millie. The classes were always something to look forward to and started the week off in a positive way. Looking forward to the next term!’ Becky L.
‘A very enjoyable 6 week course. Millie structured the different sessions focussing on all types of creative writing – dialogue, prose, short stories and sharing various tips and techniques… Definitely attending the next workshop.’ Rob J.
